The ultimate leisure and fitness development in UAE
Launched in January, the Hudayriyat Leisure and Entertainment District offers a multitude of sport facilities, retail outlets, dining options and relaxation areas. GHD has played a key role in the development of several of these recreation spaces:
- Marsana: A leisure-focused food and drink destination along the waterfront, Marsana features a series of experiences that encourage social interaction and beach lifestyle. GHD worked with modular construction specialists and local suppliers so manufacturing could happen off-site and be delivered in packages to meet programme constraints.
- 321Sports and Circuit X: This is an adventure hub, where residents and guests can stay fit and enjoy new experiences. It includes a BMX track, high-rope park and skate park. GHD's design and supervision teams worked across all phases of the project through to handover.
- Bab Al Nojoum: Translating to "The Door to Stars", this campsite offers a panoramic view of Abu Dhabi city and gives guests private beach access, delivering a truly unique experience.
- OCR Park and Bike Park: The park has an obstacle course race park designed to test endurance, and a selection of tracks for biking, walking, and jogging aimed at families, athletes and tourists. GHD's engagement in this eight-month project was significant to deliver the project to a tight schedule and high standards.
- Hudayriyat Island Heritage Trail: This landscape and public realm project showcases the UAE's heritage and archaeological assets, providing both recreation and education.
A place to refresh, energise and connect
The Hudayriyat Leisure and Entertainment District is set to make a significant contribution to the leisure and entertainment experience in Abu Dhabi. Especially in a post-COVID world, it’s a valuable destination for people to be active, to engage with nature and to socialise with friends, family and community.
David Kinniburgh, Region General Manager - UAE, said, "We are committed to creating lasting community benefit in the region and have no doubt that this unique development will be greatly enjoyed by residents and tourists alike."
