The GHD Foundation is committed to giving back to help build resilient communities

A presentation at an open-air building.

The independent not-for-profit GHD Foundation – established in October 2020 – enables our people clients and partners to support charitable enterprises to make a greater difference in reducing injustice, inequality and suffering in the world. The Foundation funds global projects linked to the themes of communities, energy, water, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM), First Nations, emergency preparedness and response.

Immunising the world

A founding member of the COVID Vaccination Alliance of UNICEF Australia, the GHD Foundation supported the vaccine rollout in Papua New Guinea. The donation has helped UNICEF work with the Papua New Guinea National Department of Health and other partners, with responsibility for vaccine rollout planning and coordination, procurement, cold chain logistics and infrastructure, training of health workers, and community engagement to build trust and drive demand for vaccination.

Restoring lost livelihoods

In 2020, typhoons affected more than 4.2 million people across eight regions in the Philippines. Funding from the GHD Foundation enabled the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation to help the fishermen of Tiwi, Albay restore their livelihoods.

Clothing and feeding children in need

The Foundation matched donations from GHD in Chile to provide shoes, clothing and Christmas presents for 61 children who live in the Koinomadelfia Childcare Home, which cares for children in need of protection in Santiago.

Feeding America

The COVID-19 pandemic – and its impact on jobs, income and health – has caused a huge increase in the dependence on food assistance across the United States. The GHD Foundation has been helping families to keep food on the table through the Sacramento Food Bank, supporting the recovery of COVID-affected communities.

Educating children

Access to learning resources is a challenge for many remote schools across Australia. In partnership with Deadly Science, a STEM education charity, the GHD Foundation has provided science books, resources and early reading materials to thousands of students in under-resourced locations.

GHD people have always made a difference in their local communities, but we saw that we could do more… As our capabilities grow, we’ll aim to tackle more ambitious projects. It’s not about flag-waving – it’s about leading by example.

Jo Metcalfe, Managing Director of GHD Foundation

GHD’s commitment to the GHD Foundation is another major step forward in realizing GHD’s purpose to create lasting community benefit. It has already provided critical funding to a range of important projects around the world.
