The GHD Digital team created Virtual Reality (VR) scenarios that allowed first responders to undertake training in a realistic train derailment situation, which would be impossible to do in the real world. Managers can put trainees through various dangerous conditions and have them make decisions based upon the situation while they are fully engaged.
First responders remain safe while training in a multitude of dangerous situations. After setting up a virtual command post, the various agency members see one another and work together just like playing in a video game. They can walk around all the derailed train cars and determine what is inside of them.
Seconds count when responding to a disaster, so being able to rehearse multiple times how you will respond is invaluable. The VR scenarios enable responders to practice working together under enormously tense and dangerous conditions, figuring out who is supposed to do what and when. Such team building makes for better and more efficient response during disasters.
