Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE – Chilean National Railway Company) is expanding and modernising its network.
GHD has been a strategic partner for EFE in improving their infrastructure, based on our technical knowledge, support, digital design and the use of international standards.
During 2019, we have delivered a number of engineering studies for the diagnosis, rehabilitation and/or new design for rail bridges and railroad crossings. GHD was also engaged to assess 30 bridges to help EFE establish medium- and long-term maintenance plans for all their rail bridges.
GHD has also worked on the new design of Biobio Bridge, to replace Chile’s longest rail bridge (1885 m), which is 130 years old. Previously, GHD delivered detailed engineering design for the emergency replacement of the Toltén Bridge, after a section of the bridge collapsed.
