Own Your Throne campaign sets the rules for flushing
GHD Digital developed a lighthearted video campaign for the City of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to illustrate some common misperceptions about the materials that its wastewater infrastructure is equipped to deal with.
The goal was to raise public awareness about how residents can prolong the life of wastewater systems and protect the environment. The videos cover topics such as what items can and cannot be flushed into the sewer system (including improperly labeled flushable wipes) and the damage that flushing inappropriate items can cause to the City's wastewater system, personal residences, neighborhoods, and the environment, including Hamilton Harbour.
The campaign won the highly coveted International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) 2019 Gold Quill Award.The campaign's social media posts have been shared thousands of times across Twitter and Instagram, the campaign's web pages have attracted close to 15,000 hits and the Own Your Throne animated videos have garnered more than 80,000 views.
