Designed by GHDWoodhead, Altum Living in Perth will be one of the first projects to successfully apply "Best Practice Principles for Seniors Community Design" developed by the Property Council of Australia. The project seeks to create an exemplary retirement living community that will make a lasting contribution to the surrounding beachside suburb of Scarborough. The development was recently granted significant town planning dispensations for design excellence. Altum will empower residents by supporting their independence and lifestyle choices in a safe and sustainable physical environment. Residents will be part of not only an active retirement village, but the broader community as well.
Craig Muir, GHDWoodhead Project Director, contributed to the development of the Best Practice Principles as part of a Property Council of Australia national working group.
Working closely with our client, Northerly Group Australia, the design of Altum embodies these principles to create an attractive proposition for people seeking to downsize and enjoy their older years, Craig said. Providing appropriate facilities for an ageing population is one of the major challenges facing our society over the next 20 years. This project will expand the range and diversity of housing options in Perth and set the benchmark for other retirement communities.
