GHD’s history highlighted
We launched ‘Breaking New Ground’, a collection of stories written by our people about GHD’s extraordinary growth and expansion from 1988 to the present. This book follows an early history titled ‘A Firm Foundation’ published in 1988. It captures our evolution to a global leader generating AUD 1.7 billion in 2016.
Pacific Sports Partnerships
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has engaged GHD as the managing contractor to facilitate more than AUD7.5 million of grant funding to sport programs across the Pacific. Two athletes competing at the Paralympic Games in Rio, Fiji’s Mere Roden and Epeli Baleibau, have benefitted from this project.
Shortly after wildfires swept through Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, causing damage to water infrastructure, GHD completed forensic engineering and on-site investigation to determine the cause, extent, and origin of a misaligned valve chamber on a water main. Vital to the project’s success was our thorough research, preparation and collaboration.
Acquisition boosts GHDWoodhead
We have joined with Creative Spaces, a New Zealand architecture, interior design and fit-out company. This combination, strengthens our GHDWoodhead brand, which provides clients with a unique integrated offering that combines architectural, interiors and other disciplines with engineering and environmental services.
Improving quality of life in Long Beach
GHD will be redeveloping a 2 mile (3.2 km) segment of East Broadway in the city of Long Beach, California, to create a multi-modal street that will improve overall mobility and the quality of life for residents in the area. The redesign will include designated pedestrian, bike, and transit lanes, creating a complete street that will be safe and accessible.
Asset management informs Canada
Our Business Consulting team in Mississauga, Ontario, is strengthening its Asset Management (AM) leadership. We are working on five key projects with the County of Strathcona, Alberta, City of Regina, Saskatchewan, City of Barrie, Regional Municipality of Niagara, and the City of Oshawa on a broad range of AM strategies, plans, programs and systems.
Reducing carbon emissions in the marine environment
GHD, in partnership with the University of Queensland’s Global Change Institute, has worked closely with the Australian Department of the Environment and Energy to complete an international ‘blue carbon’ stocktake. This report discusses the potential for carbon to be stored in coastal marine environments, and outlines international activities that have been actioned in blue carbon ecosystems. The emerging area of research into blue carbon will inform global efforts on an international scale to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
Restoring major canal structure
Our people in Cameron Park, California, worked around the clock to help the El Dorado Irrigation District get its water system up and running after winter storms caused landslides that damaged several sections of a major canal structure. We worked closely with the contractors to rebuild and repair the canal to meet the 31 May deadline.
Supporting transportation leader
Our Fire Protection and Technology group in the US has been awarded a four-year agreement with Amtrak to provide fire protection engineering and life safety consulting services. We will also deliver technology services, including security, telecommunications, and audio visual consulting and design services as needed.
